Victron Energy CAN-Bus Temperature Sensor (MPN ASS000200100)

The Victron Energy CAN-Bus Temperature Sensor is an essential accessory for the Buck-Boost DC/DC converter series and ensures safe use of LFP lithium batteries. This sensor monitors the temperature of the battery to ensure it is charged correctly at low temperatures.

Important Features

  • Battery Temperature Monitoring
  • Supply Voltage: 4.38 V/DC
  • Power Consumption: 60 mA (at 13.6 V)
  • LED Status Indicators for Easy Monitoring
  • CAN-Bus for Control Purposes and Communication with Quattro, MultiPlus, and Venus GX Devices
  • Alarm Output for Warning at Critical Temperatures

Functionality

The CAN-Bus temperature sensor transmits the temperature data via a communication cable to the Buck-Boost DC/DC converter. If the battery temperature drops below 5 degrees Celsius, the charging current is automatically reduced. If the temperature drops below zero degrees, the converter completely stops the charging process to protect the battery from damage. Additionally, the sensor can be connected to any Victron Multi or Quattro, whereby the charging voltage is adjusted to the current temperature.

This sensor is particularly important for LiFePO4 lithium systems, as charging at cold temperatures can lead to permanent damage to the cells.
