The Victron Energy VDI-64 Galvanic Isolator is an indispensable device for any boat that wants to prevent electrolytic corrosion. It protects your metallic components underwater, such as hull, propeller, and shaft, by blocking all low-voltage direct currents that enter your boat via the shore power ground cable.

How Does The Galvanic Isolator Work?

The internal structure of the VDI-64 consists of two diodes connected in a special arrangement. These diodes allow current to flow in both directions, but only when a certain voltage is exceeded. The voltage at which the diodes become active is 1.4 Vdc.

The isolator is installed directly behind your boat's 230 V connection. Thanks to its high forward voltage, it does not allow electrolytic current, while in the event of a fault current in the AC circuit, it allows current to pass through, thus interrupting the circuit.
