Balcony Power Plants: Your Solution for Reducing Electricity Costs
Balcony power plants offer a practical way to generate part of the electricity needed for your household on your own. With this innovative solution, you can significantly reduce your electricity costs. The system includes two high-quality Black-Frame solar modules, a compatible micro-inverter, and an AC connection cable that connects the inverter to a power outlet. The modules are designed to be installed directly next to each other, providing a space-saving solution.
How does a balcony power plant work?
The balcony power plant is a compact solar system that consists of a solar module and a compatible micro-inverter to feed the generated electricity into your home power grid. The inverter is mounted directly on the substructure of the solar module and is connected to the module via a solar connector. The AC cable is connected via the battery connection of the inverter and leads directly to a power outlet. You have the choice between a conventional Schuko outlet and a Wieland feed-in socket, which is included in the delivery. No special settings are required to utilize the generated solar power. If electricity from other sources is available in the house, it is used preferentially, and supplemented by grid electricity if necessary.
The balcony power plant complete system includes:
- 4x Longi Hi-Mo-6 430W solar module LR5-54HTH Black Frame
- 1x Hoymiles HMS-1600-4T micro-inverter module inverter
- 1x Hoymiles DTU-Lite-S WLAN data transmission unit
- 1x Hoymiles HMS connection cable 3x1.5mm² Plug&Play 10m
- 1x Betteri end cap for BC01 socket IP67 Female
- 4x 3m 6mm² MC-4 connection cable plug/socket extension

Balcony Power Plants in Germany & Austria
Both in Germany and Austria, the installation of balcony power plants for self-generated electricity is popular. Currently, both countries have a limit of 800 watts inverter output power for simplified installations. In Germany, a notification to the Federal Network Agency is required. Compliance with standards lies with the system operator. In Austria, registration with the grid operator is mandatory, at least 2 weeks before commissioning. Additionally, in Austria, a digital electricity meter with reverse flow protection is required, and the ÖVE E 8101 standard is relevant. In Austria, balcony power plants have been exempt from VAT since January 2024, expected to last until the end of 2025. In summary, both countries enable the operation of balcony power plants under similar performance conditions, but different registration procedures and specific national standards apply.
